Hello DC Ladies!

Hope everyone had a great New Year!

I have been thinking a lot about different music streaming services lately, and thought that information about some of these services would make a useful tech corner post.

I am going to focus on three services available- Rhapsody, Pandora, and Spotify.

Rhapsody- Rhapsody is a popular subscription music service that boasts over 13 million songs in its library. You can play the music online, or on a number of mobile devices through apps. With Rhapsody, the user can stream music from their huge library and make playlists to fit what you what to listen to. Streaming isn’t the only option- you can also buy particular songs and full albums as well to take with you everywhere.

From personal experience, Rhapsody didn’t have all the music I was looking for, but it does have quite an extensive catalog and it is very convenient. I also do think the pricing is fair- $9.99 for online streaming anywhere and on one mobile device or $14.99 for the same streaming capabilities but with access to three mobile devices.

Pandora- Who doesn’t love Pandora? Pandora is probably the most popular Internet radio available. Best part? It’s FREE. The cool thing about Pandora is that you can input your favorite artist, a favorite genre, or even a type of music- this Christmas I listened to the Mariah Carey Christmas station quite a few times- and it creates a play-list for you with your favorites in mind.

Pandora is convenient as you can stream it online or on your mobile device. There are two downsides, for me at least, is that you can’t listen to a particular song that you might really be in the mood for- you can type it in and it might play, but it’s not a 100% possibility and there are the advertisements that pop up every couple of songs. Even with these two downsides, it isn’t enough to keep me away!

Spotify- Spotify is the newest streaming service out of the three I’ve chosen to write about, and probably the one I know the least about. I have wanted to try this service for the longest time and think that writing this article might push me to do so.

From their website, it seems to be like Rhapsody, but it new packaging. A cool thing about Spotify is that you can find new types of music and share that music with friends over your social media accounts. You can stream Spotify online with access to their whole catalog for free, stream with no ads for $4.99 a month, or stream with no ads, offline via playlists you make, or on your mobile device for $9.99 a month. A new feature that their website is boasting is integration with Shazam- an app I use ALL the time to identify music I don’t know the title or artist of.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Spotify and might have to give it a try.

What do you guys think? Do you use these services or are there other/better services out there?

Have a great week!
